Lessons to learn from the Nashville shooting

The reporting of the terrorist shooting in Nashville illustrates that to be an ally of transgenderism means you will make excuses for a calculated woman who killed innocent, defenceless children and older people. Maybe you are not sympathetic to the LGBTQIA+ ideology, but you have teenagers who are. So please go through my points because they need to hear the truth and be encouraged to question the narrative mainstream media will give them.

You should think about 4 things and then ask yourself whether you still feel you should sympathise and support qawm lut ideology.

1. Why do left-wing media play down that the killer was transgender

Here are headlines taken from the BBC and Guardian articles; this is how they first reported the shooting. Look at the headlines. At no point do they say Audrey Hale was transgender; why not? She identified as a male and called herself ‘Aiden’. We know if she had been Muslim, they would mention it immediately, and political Islam would have been given as the motivation for why she did it. Why the double standards?

‘Nashville shooter sent a former classmate messages moments before attack.’

‘Nashville school shooter legally stockpiled weapons before attack.’

In another article, the guardian spends more time writing about men rather than investigating what motivated this female killer.

‘Nashville school shooter’s identity may make them an exceptionally rare perpetrator.’

2. Why did they not include a photo of her dressed as a man?

If you do a quick search of attacks by ethnic men, they always have a mugshot of them but not in this case. Do they not want people to associate violence with qawm lut? Are we only supposed to associate rainbows with them? But they are quick to associate Muslims with violence. A very recent example is the unjust treatment of teenager Shamima Begum.

3. Why are they showing sympathy to a child killer?

Because she is trans, she is not called a ‘terrorist’ or ‘maniac’ or ‘fanatic’; these emotive labels are only for Muslims even though Audrey Hale attacked the Covenant School within minutes, killing three nine-year-old pupils and three staff members.

4. Trans activists defend trans terrorist hate crime

The Trans Resistance Network stated on Tuesday in the wake of the shooting. 'While it is not our policy to engage publicly with news media, we believe this moment calls for a thoughtful response from our collective,' the statement said. They said there were two tragedies - the murder of the three nine-year-olds and three staff members and the death of Hale. 'The second and more complex tragedy is that Aiden or Audrey Hale, who felt [she] had no other effective way to be seen than to lash out by taking the life of others, and by consequence, [herself],' they continued.

TRN wrote they 'do not claim to know the individual or have access to their inner thoughts and feelings' but they 'do know that life for transgender people is very difficult, and made more difficult in the preceding months by a virtual avalanche of anti-trans legislation, and public callouts by Right Wing personalities and political figures for nothing less than the genocidal eradication of trans people from society.'

The group said that 'anti-trans hate' had to be factored into Hale's acts - although they noted: 'We do not claim to know the individual or have access to their inner thoughts or feelings.

To conclude, being an ally to qawm lut means you will defend their right to do whatever they want, and if you dare disagree with them, they will turn on you. There have been school shootings before Audrey Hale by people who are not transgendered. Still, we can say that anyone who walks into a school and mercilessly guns down innocent kids and teachers is mentally unwell.

Today, normalcy and purity are admonished, and people are aspiring to shamelessness and mental illness because they receive attention and are deluded into thinking they are something they are not. Slogans such as ‘it's okay to not be okay’ and ‘ love is love’ are the new gospel, and if anyone disagrees with their beliefs, they get outraged and hateful.

Muslims must be intelligent about whose cause or team we decide to support. Whose books we share on Instagram?* Whose actions are we willing to defend?

The Prophet of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said: ‘أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ! إِنَّ اللهَ طَيِّبٌ لَا يَقْبَلُ إِلَّا طَيِّبًا’ ‘O people! Indeed, Allah is pure; He only accepts pure.’ (Muslim, p. 393, Hadees 1015)

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Modesty is part of faith, and faith is in Paradise. Shamelessness is part of insolence, and insolence is in Hellfire.”Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2009

So rather than being part of team qawm Lut, we should be part of team al maroof:

'Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma'roof (i.e., Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief, and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful. (Quran 3:104)

* I mentioned this because I see popular Muslim bookstagram accounts promoting books written by pro- qawm Lut advocates Amina Wadud, Yassmin Abdul Magied, Mona Eltahawy and Musawah.
