Muslim Marriage Advice from Sara Sultan

Listen to the episode

Asalamualaikum and welcome back to Smart Muslima. If you're new here my name is Farhat Amin I'm your host and today's episode is about - how single Muslims should cope with feelings of hopelessness and what's the best way to resolve marital problems?

Disagreements and conflict are common in all marriages. You and your spouse come from different backgrounds and have different personalities. Now add some bad habits and interesting idiosyncrasies. Throw in a bunch of expectations, and then turn up the heat a little with the daily trials of life. Work, bills, kids, housework, extended family, etc Guess what? You are bound to have conflict.

So since every marriage has its tensions, it isn’t a question of avoiding them completely but how you deal with them.  You must choose how you will act when conflict occurs.

To help us explore this issue I have Sarah Sultan from the US. She is a licensed professional counselor who strives to empower her clients through achieving healthier, more fulfilling lives and relationships while reconnecting with Allah during the healing process. Sarah has a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling and has practiced therapy for nearly 10 years. Sarah is also an instructor with Mishkah University, where she teaches a course about the intersection between Islam, psychology, and counseling and a research fellow at Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research.
